Sugar

The crushing season for 2015 completed with the four mills finishing its crush. About 1.84 million metric tonnes of cane was crushed and we produced 221934.04 metric tonnes of raw sugar with a TCTS of 8.3 against an initial estimate of two million metric tonnes of cane.

This year our industry was vulnerable by a drought which was throughout the harvesting season. However, the figures have showed an increase in cane production of 0.68%; an decrease in sugar production of 2.17% and an improvement in TCTS of 2.91% as compared with the figures from 2014 crushing season.

Our cane farmers were paid F$88.49 (or USD44) per tonne of cane after receiving the final payment for 2013 season in last October. It is a history of our industry in the entire 132 years as this is the highest ever payment to Fijian cane farmers.
