The FSC Information Systems Centre (ISC) is in existence for many years. The ISC’s main function is to provide the information, communications & technology related services to the Fiji Sugar Corporation Limited. The Fiji Sugar Corporation has been investing a substantial amount of money in ISC, each year towards upgrading the infrastructure, facilities and training & development. ISC also provide the ICT related services to other Sugar Industry stakeholders such as Sugar Cane Growers Council, Fiji Sugar Marketing, 4 sugar unions, Sugar Cane Growers Fund and Sugar Commission of Fiji. We provide services for all ICT related needs. The services range from networking, operations & hardware/software support to application design, development, implementation, consultancy and training. We have a fleet of qualified, experienced and well-trained staff. Currently ISC employs 14 staff. The centre is headed by the Manager Information Systems and has three sections, Systems Development, Operations/Network Support and Database/Systems Support. The Systems Development section is responsible for analysing systems requirement, developing, maintaining applications, documenting and conducting user training. The Database/Systems Support section is responsible for maintaining the total integrity and security. The Operations/Network support section is responsible for the entire IT operations such as networking, communications, hardware/software related trouble-shooting, systems maintenance, monitoring systems performance, etc. We also have a Helpdesk which is manned by Helpdesk/Computer Operators. We have 2 Helpdesk/Computer Operators who work on shifts. The IS/IT EnvironmentThe ISC operates on a modern, up to date IT environment. The applications for FSC is built on Alpha/Open VMS platform using a 4GL programming language called Gembase layered upon oracle RDB. The applications for other third party organisations are built on Microsoft based platform. These applications are either developed using Microsoft access or using VB 6.0/VB .NET layered upon SQL server. FSC’s networking topology is one of the largest and most complicated in Fiji. ISC’s development team have designed, developed and implemented number of applications for FSC. These applications include:
The ERP Applications that was brought from CIMDEC (Now Ross Inc) has been customised for FSC’s use and are being maintained by the programmers at ISC. This supports applications such as General Ledger, Inventory Control System, Fixed Assets. The Payroll System is written in Cobol and is interfaced with the ERP. Other development includes, development of Applications Parts Listings, Electronics Works Order Systems, Computerized Operating Budget System and the related changes in the costing system. In late 2005 FSC introduced the concept of centralized Supply Chain Management. ISC has been involved in designing, developing all programming related changes. |
