The principal fertilizer materials used in cane production are Super phosphate and Ammonium Sulphate with Potassium.

Over the years, the tendency has been for more application of Nitrogen at the expense of P and definitely K.

In 1990, a new fertilizer blending plant was set up as a joint venture between growers, millers and Government, with its three types of blended fertilizer made available for use in 1991.

The blended fertilizers have totally replaced the straight fertilizer which had been in use since CSR days.

Super phosphate is the main component of Blend A that is used in drills while planting. Blend B contains no super phosphate and is used on plant cane while Blend C is for ratoon cane. It contains all three components -N, P and K.
