Fourteen cane varieties, all bred in Fiji except for Ragnar, are approved for planting by farmers. The four main varieties accounting for over 80% of the annual harvest are Mana, Mali, Ragnar and Vatu. Cane farmers are offered a choice of at least three varieties depending on soil type with one of these varieties being the preferred one.
